Key Purpose Statement
To manage the total Quality, Food Safety and Environmental function, in the relevant plant, to ensure
compliance to applicable standards, procedures and regulatory requirements to deliver quality product
to consumers.
Organisational Chart
The role reports to the Manufacturing Manager.
Extent of the role’s involvement in supervision and other team leadership activities
Lead and guide the plant Quality, Manufacturing, and Warehouse teams to deliver QFSE standards
and business objectives by providing direction, managing performance, and developing capability.
Level of interaction within and outside of the company as well as the nature and purpose of
the interaction
The role liaises internally with-
• Subordinates such as SHEQ Systems Specialist, Quality Assurance (QA) Technicians, Quality
Manager, and Quality Assurance Quality Controllers (QAQC) to provide guidance, support,
coaching, and mentoring to building team synergy and drive performance.

• Indirect subordinates, such as Production Process Controllers, Team Leaders, Unit Mangers,
Warehouse Managers, and Process Owners to provide guidance, support, coaching, and mentoring
on standards of outputs.
• Managers with regards to Quality, Food Safety and Environmental aspects for business, and
manufacturing strategy alignment and execution.
• Senior leadership to highlight risks and mitigation strategies that are needed in strategic business
planning as well as daily operations to achieve company goals.
• Senior management in other functions which include Human Resources, Finance, Public Affairs
and Communication, Commercial, and Operations to communicate and get support in driving
business goals.
• The Regional QFSE Managers for functional support, as well as Regional Risk Managers for
systems implementation.
• Regional Trade Quality Specialists for consumer and customer incident investigations to close out.
• Other QFSE Managers in the Region and Country for support and to share best practices with other
CCBSA plants.
• The Regional Microbiologist and Quality Improvement Specialist to ensure microbiological practices
are sound and risks are mitigated, and continuous improvement activities are driven.
The role liaises externally with-
• Our clients (TCCC) Technical and South African Regulatory (SAR) team in clients Operating
Requirements (KORE) implementation and new product introductions.
• Local regulators for product quality (i.e., National Regulations for Compulsory Requirements and
Bureau of Standards for South Africa) as well Environment Regulatory Bodies (National
Environment Management Authority / Green Scorpions) for compliance to regulatory requirements.
• The role interacts with the suppliers for of all goods and services to the business that impact on
manufacturing and the business.
• Interacting with suppliers of raw material and ingredients.
• Interacting with Suppliers of services and contracts a whilst maintaining good housekeeping.

Key Outputs and Accountabilities
Implement and Manage the Quality Business Plan for the Plant
• Implement the Annual Business Plan (ABP), and drive, monitor and report on QFSE goals for the
plant.
• Develop plans for Laboratory Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) requirements and ensure the execution
thereof.
• Report on KPI’s aligned with internal Management, clients and the clients (TCCC), including all
Quality, Environmental and Sustainability parameters such as water usage, energy usage, plant
waste and recycling.
• Adapt clients, and relevant, Quality standards, protocols, and procedures for the plant.

• Provide support to the Manufacturing & Technical (M&T) and Logistics teams at plant level to deliver
quality products to consumers.
Ensure Product and Package Quality meet Legal, clients and TCCC Requirements
• Ensure that Product and Package Quality standards are monitored and controlled for the plant
according to legal, internal and clients Requirements.
• Ensure that ingredients and package quality is monitored and controlled according to standards for
all internal products.
• Resolve all quality issues from plant level to the customer to meet business requirements.
• Ensure Good Laboratory Practices are implemented in all laboratories on site (on-line, Quality
Assurance and micro) and that all consumables are managed and stocked accordingly.
• Ensure that Laboratory Equipment is serviced, maintained, calibrated, and verified as per agreed
standards.
• Ensure process capability programs are implemented, monitored, and reviewed by all relevant QA,
Engineering and Production departments on agreed frequencies.
• Lead the implementation of Quality at Source in the plant and develop Quality Assurance
functionality.
Implement and Manage Integrated SHEQ Environmental Compliance System for the Plant
• Ensure that standards are implemented in line with International Standards Organisation (ISO
14000, 9000, FSSC 22000), client (KORE) and legal requirements.
• Develop and implement environmental systems and guidelines for the plant.
• Determine environmental goals through Aspect and Impact Assessments.
• Ensure adherence to the National Environmental Act and other applicable legislation.
• Implement and maintain a document management system that addresses all Quality, Food Safety,
Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental requirements.
• Ensure that all validation requirements for new processes and equipment are followed as per
agreed protocols.
• Support the implementation of Supply Chain Maturity Test (SCMAT) and ensure that the Quality
team is actively involved in the implementation of principles and improvement projects as required.
• Ensure commercialisation and change management processes are followed to support the
seamless execution of the change.
Continuous Improvement of QFSE Management
• Conduct loss and waste analyses and drive continuous improvement programs to ensure
appropriate quality process capability.
• Ensure the implantation of Statistical Process controls and capability to improve product and
package quality.
• Facilitate technical problem-solving regarding quality issues and manage trade and consumer
complaints.
• Ensure that improvement processes are in place to improve water and energy usage as well as
waste and recycling.
• Ensure QFSE problem solving capability for all site teams.
• Ensure the implementation of the environmental monitoring plan to mitigate and control
microbiological risks.
Manage and Implement Cost Controls to Ensure Adherence to Quality Budget
• Ensures the acquisition of laboratory equipment in line with the budget and assumes accountability
for the pay cost and management of contracts.
• Implement and manage the Quality budget to ensure adherence thereto.
• Accountable to ensure adherence to budget for all Quality, Food Safety and Environmental external
contracts.
• Ensure that quotations are available in time to update Rolling Estimates (REs) for consumables.
• Ensure that all laboratory CAPEX requirements are communicated and planned for in the annual
budget process according to the standard lab list.

• Drive effective talent management practices to ensure an engaged team and sustainable talent
pipeline, in accordance with business plan, to deliver on full potential.
• Lead and manage the plant Quality team to allow for the achievement of set goals, an engaged
team and high-quality work output.
Qualifications and Experience
• A relevant Bachelor of Science degree.
• ISO 9000, ISO 14000, FSSC 22000 and HACCP training certificate.
• A master’s degree in science (BSc) or a Food Sciences Total Quality Management qualification
would be an added advantage.
• A minimum of 5-8 years working experience in Quality role within the food industry, with at least 3
years in a managerial role.
